The Society's first school in America, the Academy of the Sacred Heart in St. Charles, Mo. was founded by St. Rose Philippine Duchesne in 1818. Originally a girls' school, today it is an independent, private, Catholic elementary school for both boys and girls—the largest private elementary school in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Pre-K through fifth grade classes are coed; sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes are divided by gender.
Rooted in the spirituality of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (RSCJ) and in the evolving tradition of the Roman Catholic Church, the Academy continues to embrace an educational approach that values the physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual dimensions of our students. Espousing the Five Goals of Sacred Heart education,
We educate and inspire the heart and mind of each child
to become a courageous and confident leader who knows
and loves God, and who reveals that love by serving others.
The Academy offers a rigorous education rooted in a loving, nurturing and secure environment. Our program includes spiritual and character formation, differentiated instruction, global education and international languages, daily P.E. classes, enrichment programs, and a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Ninety-nine percent of graduates are admitted to their first-choice high schools.
Our 10-acre campus is situated on one square city block in historic downtown St. Charles, and includes the Shrine of St. Philippine Duchesne.
Serving: Coed PreK-Grade 8
