Janet Erskine Stuart Centenary Celebration

Network of Sacred Heart Schools

Network of Sacred Heart Schools will celebrate the Centenary of Janet Erskine Stuart’s death during 2013 through October 21, 2014. The Network has planned several events/projects and invites schools to participate in any and/or all of them.

Members of the Network (Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ) Planning Committee are:

Words inspire.The words of our Sacred Heart Mothers offer us an opportunity to connect their wisdom and insight to our own personal and professional experiences.Their words invite us to navigate our lives with the assurance of rooting each daily moment in our shared Sacred Heart context.

As we prepare to mark the centenary of Janet Erskine Stuart’s death, we invite you as a member of our Sacred Heart family, and in particular students, faculty, staff, and alumnae/i of our Network schools to engage the words of Mother Stuart by reflecting on her writings and submitting your favorite quote.

A pamphlet that includes excerpts from the writings of Mother Janet Erskine Stuart will be a gift from the Network to each employee of Network schools.

Posts to celebrate the Centenary of Mother Stuart will occur on several days of the week during the Centenary year. Please submit responses in the form of textual reflections and thoughts, poetry, video, artwork or web links...or just simply "like" or "share" the post. An archive of posts will be provided for future reference.

Janet Erskine Stuart Garden at Stuart Country Day School, Princeton

Each Network School is invited to create and donate a “stepping stone” to be used in the closing ceremony.

The stone should be 12 inches in the octagon shape. Stone designs should include the name of school as well as a representation of the school.

Each school will choose how to select their creation. Each school will be responsible for shipping to the "stepping stone" to Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Princeton, New Jersey, no later than April 15, 2014.

Janet Erskine Stuart Artwork for the Stuart Center in Washington, DC

Students in each Network School were invited to create and donate a framed wall-hanging of two-dimensional art for the newly established Stuart Center for Mission, Educational Leadership and Technology. Donated art will depict something centered around the life of Mother Stuart...her poetry, something inspirational from her writings, etc. Blue hyacinths were part of her vocation, however, there is much more to connect the impact of Mother Stuart's legacy to us.

*The wall-hanging is to be approximately 20 inches long and 20 inches wide...AND framed. One piece of artwork from each school should be shipped to the Stuart Center by December 31, 2013. In addiiton, please prepare a digital image for use in Stuart Center's digital art gallery.
