Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is seeking exceptional candidates for a unique position: Sophie Scholars Program Director/Sacred Heart Prep EJME Coordinator.

Organization Overview

Founded in 1898, SHS is a Roman Catholic, coeducational, independent school and is comprised of four divisions:  SHS Preschool and Kindergarten, SHS Lower and Middle Schools for grades one through eight, and Sacred Heart Preparatory for grades nine through twelve.  

Located on a beautiful 64‐acre campus in the San Francisco Bay Area, SHS is one of 23 schools in the U.S. Network of Sacred Heart Schools and is affiliated with a network of over 200 Sacred Heart schools worldwide. The school's mission is to educate the whole child to be a leader who loves God and serves others.   

SHS employs over 250 full‐ and part‐time women and men with a strong commitment to diversity.  Nearly 25% of the 1,000+ students are students of color; a significant percentage of the student body receives need‐based tuition assistance; many graduating seniors earn recognition in the National Merit Scholarship program; 100% of our graduates are accepted into four‐year colleges. 

The annual budget of SHS is more than $30 million and the endowment is nearly $40 million, both growing rapidly in recent years and expected to continue growing as enrollment increases toward 1,200 students, and as a result of the capital campaign.

Summary of Position

Guided by 21st-century skills, the Sacred Heart Network’s Goals and Criteria, and the Professional and Personal Formation (PPF) Practices of Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton, the Sophie Scholars Program Director/Sacred Heart Prep EJME Coordinator will dedicate equal time to the duties of the administration of the Sophie Scholars Program and the coordination of the EJME (Equity, Justice and Multicultural Education) office at Sacred Heart Preparatory. This is a 12-month (“year-round”) position.

In the capacity of Sophie Scholars Program Director, the incumbent will provide strategic and instructional leadership, administration, and development of all academic programs, as well as supervision, professional development and evaluation of all educators of the Sophie Scholars Program.  The Director will also lead a summer school and develop a curriculum that is committed to the ongoing development and well being of the Sophie Scholars Program’s students, teachers, staff, families and mission.

In the capacity of EJME Coordinator, the incumbent will work closely with the Director of EJME to continue to support, develop and implement the following EJME programs and initiatives at Sacred Heart Prep: mentoring students; educating faculty, administration, and students around issues of multicultural education; recruiting students of color; collaborating with college counseling and CSS; and performing outreach to families of color.  Finally, the EJME Coordinator will collaborate with school divisions to guide and enact our initiatives of inclusion in all aspects of school life.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:  curriculum development, managing a tutoring and co-curricular enrichment program, overseeing the Sophie Scholars Program admissions process, budget management, community and parent relations, serving as Sophie Scholars School Board Chair and as a member of the Prep’s Student Life Committee, mentoring students and partnering with SHS’ College Counseling and Center for Student Success (CSS) departments.  A full description of major areas of responsibilities and duties available to interested candidates.

Qualifications• Clear understanding, appreciation and commitment to the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education.• Demonstrable commitment to social justice and education:  access, inclusion, and multiculturalism.• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.• M.Ed. / M.A. in Education or related field.• Bilingual in English and Spanish.• Five years of middle or secondary school experience; school administration experience.
