Convent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich, Connecticut is currently seeking a full time Upper School Teacher of American Literature and AP Language and Composition for the 2012-2013 School Year. Convent of the Sacred Heart is an independent Catholic day school for 770 girls in grades PS-12 located in Greenwich, Connecticut. It is one of the oldest schools in a network of 22 American schools of the Sacred Heart.The Convent of the Sacred Heart is seeking an experienced, dynamic and collaborative educator whose primary responsibility is teaching the 11th grade American Literature Curriculum and the AP Language and Literature curriculum through American Literature. Job Description:
- Teach multiple sections of 11th Grade American Literature on the honors and college preparatory levels. The honors sections simultaneously function to prepare students for the AP Language and Composition Exam.
- Be willing to teach one or more course as needed in another upper school English course.
- Teach in a way that encourages curiosity, independence, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of his/her students
- Create a caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; oversee instruction and authentic assessment.
- Interact with parents; maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, and encourage their involvement
- Participate regularly in Upper School and departmental meetings; work collaboratively on interdisciplinary courses, projects and field trips;
- Serve as a class advisor; perform various faculty supervisory duties.
- Join a team of faculty moderators of the student art and literature magazine.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years teaching experience, experience with upper-school aged students or higher, a masters degree or higher in English, experience/scholarship in American Literature with flexibility to teach in other areas as well, experience in literary magazines or similar publications, experience with classroom technology, comfort in collaboration with colleagues, and creativity in approach to classroom teaching.
