Lucas Long, senior at Stuart Hall at the Schools of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco responded to the school's theme of Gratitude through his advanced art project, a Mural of Gratitude.  The mural will grace the halls of Stuart for all to view, appreciate and nurture a sense of this gratitude.

Lucas' words upon submission:

In order to be grateful, one must acknowledge the people and symbols of the past in order to fully understand their present environment. Without the comprehension of one's predecessors a gap of understanding and disconnect between generations is formed.  This makes it impossible for a group to understand their place and purpose.

My goal in this given piece of art is to fuse the past with the present by depicting the people and symbols of our history through the means of modern street art. From the idolized depiction of Madeleine Sophie Barat to the sketch of the present Stuart Hall High School campus, a gap will be breached and the essence of gratefulness will be intended.

Gratitude, a readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness, has been a prevalent theme throughout my Stuart Hall career. To show my gratitude for the community, I have created this iconic piece of art as an ode to the interconnected community of the Schools of the Sacred Heart.
