As a guest speaker at the Network fall global education conference, Carrollton senior, Molly Nuell shared a story of vision and expectation about a school project in Haiti. For the past three years Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart has partnered with the University of Miami and Partners in Health to bring the possibility of free public education with an environment conducive to learning to students and families in Haiti.
During the Paths to Global Education conference, Molly challenged the participants from our Network of Sacred Heart Schools to join Carrollton in providing much needed support for the new school project. In that spirit of prayer, service and justice schools who wish to may participate in a Valentine’s Day , February 14, 2012 fundraising project, Hearts for Haiti.
Note from Suzanne Cooke, Head of School at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart..."We are very excited that the Hearts for Haiti Project is truly off and running. Thank you for your prayers and support. As you can see from the attached letter, the school is around the corner. The groundbreaking ceremony was so thrilling and beautiful. To hear the children speak of this new school was humbling and inspiring.
Some of you have asked …”will this be a Sacred heart School?” The answer is no. Rather this is a community school in the truest sense of that word. A school owned by the people of this town for their children. In Haiti, there is no such thing as free education or public education as we know it here in the USA. Our dream is that we Network Schools could work together and sponsor children to go to this school. More details on sponsorship will follow.
In the meanwhile Carrollton Senior Molly Nuell is in touch with the Global Integrators to promote the Network wide Bake Sale. The event is simply a suggestion which so many schools seem to be interested in during their fall conference."
